100 Word Review - #T24 - Zombie Driver

Ignore all that mutiplier nonsense. It distracts from the important stuff...
Killing zombies.

Zombie Driver is what Wasteland Angel could, and should, have been. An inbred hybrid of Carmageddon and Left 4 Dead, Zombie Driver dumps you in a city crawling with zombies and gives you some objectives, most of which involve rescuing people in your increasingly upgradable taxis, limos and buses . Unlike Wasteland Angel, Zombie Driver has actual longevity via a few good different game modes and it's incredibly satisfying to simply take out your best car and weapons and go crazy. If you don't fancy waiting until next year for the new Carmageddon, this should tide you over very nicely.

100 Word Review - #S5 - Rock of Ages

Nothing can stop the rock
Rock of Ages

Developer - ACE Team

Marble Madness meets Tower Defence, ACE Team clearly didn't want this title to be pigeon holed. Set up your defences of elephants, catapults, fans and explosive barrels, then roll your boulder down a winding hill towards the enemy's gate while avoiding their defences. Each run allows you and your enemy to add more defences which makes each attempt that bit harder. The very colourful and Monty Python-esque art style really complements this wacky title. RoA is not a game to sit and play for hours but it's great fun to pick up once in a while for a quick roll.

100 Word Review - #32 - Trials 2: Second Edition

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Trials 2: Second Edition is a game whose series started as a flash game on Miniclip. It has come a long way since then. It does look a bit dated now, after just 4 years, but that shouldn’t be a major issue in what is still a very fun game. T2:SE starts off very easy but gets hard rather fast. And it’s this difficulty that will cause bouts of frustration and purposeful crashes (well, it did for me). There are 40 stages (excluding downloadable levels), but as you’ll be crashing quite often, these levels will last a rather long time.

100 Word Review - #20 - inMomentum

There's a reason this game has an epilepsy warning

My head hurts, and I’m sure it’s from playing this game. It’s not often I’ll start by mentioning the visuals, but they’re just so completely mental. ‘InMomentum’s single player is a fast-paced run through an area with floating platforms, as you collect gems to open the exit gate. It kind of reminds me of the time trial levels from ‘Mirror’s Edge’. The multiplayer takes the form of a multi-lap race with awesome power-ups. The game isn’t helped by the awkward control scheme, switching the usual controls for shooting and jumping. And when do you ever use the ‘Alt’ key? Seriously...

100 Word Review - #13 - Nimbus

You'll have fun just drifting around

‘Nimbus’ is a cool little game in which you pilot a craft through a hazard-filled area. The catch being that apart from the occasional boost pad, you have no propulsion other than gravity. It’s a shame that ‘Nimbus’ doesn't have much more to it than that core mechanic. I’ve found that, for the most part, it has a calming effect on me. This ends rather abruptly when I come across an insanely difficult level, but the game is good enough to keep me from rage-quitting and burning my computer. And that, my friends, is the sign of a good game.
