100 Word Review - #42 - Windosill

Windosill's charm spreads to its humble flash window.

Windosill is a charming, artsy puzzle game that has an embarrassing feature – its length. I’ll admit I wasn’t spending much time admiring the admittedly beautiful scenery while playing, but 20 minutes is just silly – I’m really glad I got this in an indie bundle and didn’t pay full price for it. Some of the puzzles are filled with red herrings that do nothing but distract you from the solution, but this adds to its charm as you want to click on everything to see what happens. Even though it is extremely short, it’s quite good and still worth a look.

After playing something as great, exotic and amazing as this, I think I have brain damage. Such constant, enticing and original brain-teasing led me to a couple of sleepless nights figuring out the solution for that devious level. Nothing here is random and no puzzle is solved by sheer luck or by a single solution, and that kind of achievement gives the player a feeling of absolute bliss. A "9" that nears a "10" for one of the most compelling puzzlers that I've ever played.

100 Word Review - #T20 - Flight Control HD

If you can land more than 150 aircraft,

Apparently I'd be no good as an air traffic controller. FCHD is a fun game, the sole premise being that you have to juggle planes and helicopters which need to land on specific runways without any of them crashing into each other. There are about 8 different levels of varying difficulty and it becomes genuinely hard after a while trying to keep track of what's going on but without becoming too frustrating. Nothing astounding, FCHD is ultimately harmless, an enjoyable game to kill a bit of time with nice replay value, though probably better suited to mobile devices than PCs.

100 Word Review - #35 - Peggle Nights

Oh shit, I have to be in work in 10 minutes...
Peggle Nights

Developer - PopCap Games Inc

Other Games by Developer - Plants Vs. Zombies, Bejewled 3

My Playtime - 2.9 hours

You can take my playtime here with a pinch of salt. I have played Peggle Nights and its predecessor for at least 50 hours, and have loved every single minute. Peggle has a simple premise - use some balls to try and clear some pegs. Each level is set out like a Pachinko board, and the balls bounce from peg to peg, building up a bigger score. It can get exasperatingly difficult at some times, especially towards the end of the challenges, but as you load it up to pass an hour you will wonder where all your time went.

“Osmos” takes me back to my review of “SpaceChem” in as much as I end up wanting to obliterate my PC monitor whenever I play it. In “Osmos” you are given one of many possible objectives, all of which involve absorbing entities smaller than yours while avoiding larger ones. “Osmos” is a fun little game let down by occasionally obnoxious difficulty. Fortunately you can scramble the setup of every game to look for a more advantageous start. While its not going to captivate you for hours, “Osmos” is a good title that comes heartily recommended.

100 Word Review - #K7 - Lucidity

This might be taken from the game.

It's going to be difficult to call this one a review. I barely got out of the gate with Lucidity before I stopped playing to go and do anything else. I really like puzzle platformers (despite some of the low scores that I have given them) but this one just had nothing in the opening to get me going. The moral of the story for me is "just because a game is on sale, doesn't mean that you should buy it, no matter how cheap". I might try it again but the first impression made me uninstall it straight way.

Have you ever looked at an unsorted mess knowing that you had to find one tiny object in it? Have you ever wanted that feeling of frustration captured in a game? No? Tough. “Amazing Adventures Around the World” provides you with a selection of scenery filled with objects that aren’t so much hidden as simply overwhelming, before asking you to find 10 specific items. It might not sound exciting, and that’s because it’s not. It is, however, a perfect time waster for people that don’t require fun in their games. Oh, and one more thing... this is actually a sequel.
